Vision Tech International Holdings is to expand its digital versatile disc (DVD) manufacturing capacity two-fold this year, according to chairman Hung Kam-ming. The company primarily manufactures and distributes products in the mainland for South Korean electronics group Samsung. 'We are now running one shift on our assembly line which can produce 240,000 DVD players annually,' he said. 'Our capacity will not be enough even if we run two shifts this year.' He expected the mainland DVD machine market to grow from 'several million units' last year to more than 10 million units this year. He said the company will merge by July its television and DVD player production facilities in Beijing and Guangdong into one Guangdong plant, which will have three DVD production lines.
