Beijing expenses up
Hong Kong's Beijing Office plans to spend an extra $1.5 million on duty visits and entertainment to broaden its liaison network, officials say.
The general expenses of the office will increase by $4.6 million in the next financial year - up 44.8 per cent to $15 million.
The additional funds are set aside to promote Hong Kong's image, broaden the liaison network and provide assistance to Hong Kong residents on the mainland.
Of the $4.6 million, director Bowen Leung Po-wing said $1.5 million would be spent on duty visits, entertainment and receptions or functions.
Another $1 million would be used for legal consultancy fees for Hong Kong people who sought help. It is understood it will be mainly for detainees.
The additional amount will also be used for staff travel allowances.
