EMANUEL Ax, hailed as one of the most accomplished pianists of his generation, gives a recital at the Hongkong Cultural Centre Hall at 8 pm on June 20.

Critics have praised him for his poetic lyricism, brilliant technique, warmth and musical intelligence.

Ax gained public attention at the age of 25 when in 1974 he won the first Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition. Ax's distinguished career has also brought him other prestigious prizes, including the Michales Award of Young Concert Artists and the Avery Fisher Prize.

Born in Lvov, Poland, Emanuel Ax has performed with virtually every major symphony orchestra, given countless recitals in the greatest concert halls and has a long list of highly successful recordings to his credit.

Ax has recorded more than 20 albums, and many of them have become best sellers and won top honours.

Ax has also appeared in Hongkong with Yo-yo Ma and Isaac Stern in chamber music concerts.
