Over the course of this month, the South China Morning Post has featured a number of reports and letters on the current state of the Hong Kong Philharmonic.
After reading all this, I feel quite anxious about the future of the orchestra which plays a valuable role in our cultural life.
Much effort and expense has been devoted to building this resource over the years; it should not now be squandered.
As a supporter of the orchestra, both through income tax and concert attendance, I should like to know of the strategic direction of the orchestra.
Does the Government have a plan for reform of the management which now seems to be in rather a mess? And what about musical policy, or does this await the arrival of the new conductor later this year? If not available now, when will such plans be made public? CHRISTOPHER HOMFRAY Pokfulam
