A KEY witness in the inquiry into the wrongful jailing of Lin Qiaoying has contradicted the teenager's allegations that officials bullied her into making confession.
Hong Kong detectives returned last week from interviewing a woman in Fuzhou, Fujian province, who was arrested on the same New York-bound plane as Qiaoying at Chek Lap Kok on October 9 last year.
The woman - who was convicted of travelling on a false passport and served four months in jail before being repatriated - had been identified by Qiaoying, 17, as someone who could back her claims that threats and intimidation were used to secure a confession that she too was using a fake travel document.
But a source said: 'She refuted all the allegations. The police investigation is now complete and the file is with the Department of Justice.
'Nothing illegal has been found.' There is understood to be a difference of opinion within the department about exactly what step to take next but no criminal charges will be brought.
It is also understood that any compensation claim pursued by Qiaoying would face difficulties as a result of the probe.
The Sunday Morning Post also understands that the translator who was used to conduct interviews with Qiaoying at Chek Lap Kok immediately after her arrest could face the sack.
