A money manager has been charged with stealing millions of dollars from his clients, mainly young Hollywood stars.
Among those who invested with Dana Giacchetto, who was accused of stealing at least US$6 million (HK$46.6 million) were Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
Giacchetto, 37, was alleged to have shuffled US$20 million into his own account, which he used to fund a lavish New York lifestyle.
If convicted, the money manager, who is president of the Cassandra Investment group, could face up to 20 years in jail and $1.5 million in fines.
He is accused of securities fraud and investment advisory fraud. His funds have been frozen and a receiver appointed to administer his affairs.
The investigating authorities are not disclosing which individuals have lost money. Last year, 17 of Giacchetto's most high-profile clients dispensed with his services as rumours of his activities spread.
