Meiya Power, a Hong Kong-based energy company, has signed a letter of intent with a mainland firm to build a US$700 million natural gas-fuelled power plant in the north. The plant, in the Jingbian gas field in Shaanxi, would have four 300 megawatt generators, an official of China National Zhenglian Industrial said. Meiya would invest US$600 million, the official said. Meiya officials could not be reached for comment. A feasibility study had been handed to the State Development Planning Commission. The official said he was confident the project would be approved because it would 'use clean energy to develop the west'.
