People can exercise by doing housework, climbing the stairs or walking to work, the Government says.
The 30-minute daily exercise recommended by the Department of Health did not need to be done outdoors in full sports gear, said assistant director of personal health services Dr Regina Ching Chuek-tuen.
'You don't need to go to the gym or a sports stadium, but think of some exercises out of your daily routine. Simple housework like mopping the floor will help.
'You can also consider giving up the lifts and walking to the office by getting off the bus one stop earlier,' she said.
'So long as the movements make you sweat and increase the rate of your heartbeat, they can have the same effects that regular exercise brings.' A 30-minute-a-day exercise routine is also being introduced to corporations, which will be invited to make a public pledge to support the campaign and schedule group exercises for staff in the morning or before lunch breaks.
Dr Ching said it was a global trend that people were exercising less.
