Hutchison Whampoa group managing director Canning Fok Kin-ning made more than HK$206 million in emoluments last year, according to the group's annual report, easily making him Hong Kong's highest-paid executive.

Mr Fok is believed to have taken home the lion's share of the HK$329 million in bonuses paid to executives in what was a record year for Hutchison.

His package was 5.7 times higher than the almost HK$36 million he made in 1998 and is above what most locally listed companies would have made last year.

During Hutchison's record-profit year, Mr Fok sealed deals worth HK$150 billion, the majority of which came from selling its 44.8 per cent stake in British mobile phone firm Orange to Germany's Mannesmann.
