A German businessman was drugged and robbed of US$125,000 (HK$967,000) by two prostitutes, but by the time he woke up the money had been recovered, according to press reports. The businessman, who was attending the China Export Commodities Fair in Guangzhou which closed last week, met the women in his hotel's coffee shop. Xu Xiaoyan and He Mingyuan later accompanied him to his room. While He distracted the businessman, Xu slipped some form of sleeping powder into his drink, the reports said. The businessman was sound asleep in less than 10 minutes. The two women then reportedly searched the room, discovered the cash and fled. But security staff at the hotel were alert, the reports said. They telephoned the police in the early hours of April 21. The security staff told the officers that they had spotted two suspicious-looking women. Officers were immediately sent to the hotel, where they arrested the two young women. Xu and He, both from Hubei province, had in their possession US dollars, German marks, and Hong Kong dollars amounting to about US$125,000, according to the reports. According to police officers, the businessman was still asleep when they went up to the room to return his money. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was able to spend time sleeping off the drug.
