Legislator Lau Chin-shek's future as a member of the Democratic Party could be decided as early as this week.
Mr Lau's membership has been frozen since May last year because of his refusal to quit political group The Frontier. The Democrats do not allow dual membership.
The Democratic Party's central committee is due to make a preliminary decision soon.
Party secretary-general Law Chi-kwong said: 'It's not confirmed if our disciplinary committee has come to a conclusion to oust him and it's the central committee that makes the final decision. It's quite possible he'll get expelled,' Mr Law said.
Mr Lau is supposed to decide whether to leave the Democratic Party when the freeze expires at the end of the month.
He said yesterday he had not been told of any plan to expel him.
