The Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department is recruiting members for its youth orchestras, bands and choirs in the 2000-2001 training year. Young musicians up to the age of 25 are invited to apply. The 17 music groups include five Chinese orchestras, one symphony orchestra, five string orchestras, four bands and two choirs. The aim of the training programme is to enhance music skills and the spirit of co-operation among young people. The deadline for application is May 14. Current members of various groups are also required to re-apply. The new training year will start from this September to July 2001. Weekly rehearsals of two to three hours will be held and in tensive training may be held during school holidays. Apart from performing in major concerts, members will also participate in community concerts, district cultural activities and music exchanges. The Music Office will also organise concert tours for its advanced groups to promote international cultural exchange. Members are required to bring their own musical instruments (except bulky ones) to the rehearsals and performances. Qualified applicants will be invited to attend an audition or interview at which applicants will be requested to perform a piece of self-selected music and a sight-reading test.
