THE Wallem group has opened a representative office in Tianjin and plans to open another office in Beijing in the near future.

These are the latest in a series of offices that Wallem is establishing in the mainland.
''We went back to China because we see the vital importance of China's shipping interests,'' said Wallem director Peter Mak.
The Wallem Group was formed in Shanghai in 1898, leaving in 1949.
By then, the group already had an office in Hongkong which was established in 1925 with the purchase of a series of 3,500 deadweight tonne (dwt) Tweendeckers.

The company, which has a strong regional network, provides ship management, ship agency, shipbroking, freight forwarding and travel services to the shipping industry.
