Shaheen coach Hamid Din breathed a huge sigh of relief after watching his side squeeze out a 6-5 penalty shootout win over arch rivals Kowloon Cricket Club A in yesterday's absorbing Holland Cup semi-final.
The match ended in a goalless draw after extra-time, forcing the match to a penalty ritual - a cruel way to end KCC's hopes of swinging their fortunes around after two successive defeats to their rivals in the league.
The result really could not have been closer with Shaheen winning the shootout by sudden death at King's Park. Swalikh Muhammed's successful penalty flick eventually sealed his team's triumph after KCC midfielder Ken Wong Wai-kui had missed his penalty chance.
And the man who has helped shape the strongest local side of the past 20 years was ecstatic with Shaheen's latest triumph that put them on course for another double.
'We are very close to scoring the double again. We have a great chance of doing it and I'm very glad that our boys stuck to it to the bitter end,' said Din.
'KCC played aggressively and they played very well. They played a more open game but we did it in the end,' he added.
With the league title theirs for the taking with two relatively easy matches left in their campaign, Shaheen can rewrite their names on the Holland Cup when they play Pakistan Association A in the final on Sunday.
