HOTEL stock trading has been brisk and strong over the past week. All stocks made gains, with Far East Hotels and Miramar Hotel hitting highs for the year. Far East Hotels jumped 75 per cent to hit $1.12 from 64 cents. Its previous high was $1.06. Miramar Hotel reached a year's high of $13.50, up 33.7 per cent from $10.10. Its previous high was $13. The listing of Shangri-La Asia, the China and Hongkong hotel arm of the Shangri-La group, will give the stock exchange its 12th major hotel counter. Trading of the shares on the exchange is expected to start on June 17. Analysts expressed optimism for the issue on the basis that the properties were of high quality and that the hotel industry was on an upturn in Hongkong. In China, the number of tourists and business travellers is expected to climb in line with the country's booming economy.
