Henderson Land Development has failed in its second attempt to win Government approval for a residential redevelopment of Tang King Po School in Ho Man Tin despite scaling back the project.

The Town Planning Board yesterday turned down the proposal, even after Henderson had reduced the development scale by 18 per cent.

The developer wanted to build three residential towers over a five-storey podium with a tower for school purposes.

The proposal involved building 840 residential units with 800,000 square feet of floor area and 200,000 sq ft space for education purposes.

The education institution section was to include 18 classrooms for primary school and 30 classrooms for secondary school.

However, a spokesman for the Town Planning Board said the Tang King Po School site should be retained as a school.

The board also did not want to set a precedent for turning schools along Tin Kwong Road into residential buildings.
