Heng Fa Chuen is one of those suburbs few people know about. One stop before Chai Wan, at the eastern end of the MTR's Hong Kong Island line, the estate is 10 minutes drive from Taikoo Shing and a half-an-hour MTR ride to Central.

Heng Fa Chuen residential development was built in 1988 by the MTR Corp, and half its 50 buildings are on the nearby hills, with the other half facing Lei Yue Mun Bay.

The development is the suburb's only feature. The industrial estates of Chai Wan are at the other end of the residential complex.

It has an impressive waterfront - a place for residents to exercise and stroll.

According to Ellen Tse, a manager at Easy Property, Heng Fa Chuen is regarded as having good feng shui, facing the Lei Yue Mun Bay and with hills on the other side of the complex. While it is popular among Chinese professionals, more expatriates have moved in during the past few years. As a result, Ms Tse said, about 25 per cent of residents are expatriates.

Buildings at Heng Fa Chuen have a good space between them and none is taller than 20 floors. This relieves the claustrophobic feeling of living in a concrete jungle. Another reason people choose to live in the area is the convenient transport - the Heng Fa Chuen MTR station is within walking distance from all blocks. Also, the Island Eastern Corridor expressway is close by, providing easy access to Central and Causeway Bay for those who prefer to travel by road.
