Swire Properties has announced that global telecommunications provider KDD Telecomet Hong Kong is committed to lease 31,500 square feet at Warwick House in Taikoo Place, Quarry Bay, to build its facility management site. Swire director and general manager Stephan Spurr said its Island East Matrix, comprising 11 buildings in Taikoo Place and Cityplaza, was successfully proving to be the choice of top international telecoms operators. 'This is where they build their communications infrastructure in Hong Kong to serve the region's rapidly growing telecommunications needs for business activities, as well as for its wide-spreading electronic business applications,' he said. 'The Island East Matrix and, in particular, our 'techno centres' in Warwick, Cornwall and Somerset houses, enable us to co-locate other co-location hubs and, in turn, [we] shall shortly be offering co-location opportunities to our many office tenants and the territory at large.' Swire said the area was creating the largest carrier-class exchange in Asia-Pacific outside Japan and was home already to Level 3 and Cable & Wireless HKT. The Island East Matrix consists of eight office buildings, including Cityplaza One, Oxford House and Dorset House, and three 'techno centres'. The buildings are linked via a campus telecommunications wiring network to meet the growing bandwidth requirements of tenants. Takayuki Kawakita, managing director of KDD Telecomet Hong Kong, said the group had provided facility management services for more than 10 years in Europe and the United States. 'Now we are about to penetrate into the Asian region. Hong Kong is the first move,' he said.
