Course keeps teachers updated
Collaborations between universities and secondary schools should be fostered to improve the quality of education, the vice-president of the City University (CityU) said.
Professor Wong Yuk-shan said: 'If universities help secondary students solve their problems, universities will benefit. Because if the quality of students improves, the quality of university students will improve as well.' In a bid to promote mutual collaboration, the CityU has launched an initiative, the Teachers Update Course for secondary school teachers.
The course is designed for senior form teachers to upgrade their knowledge and share new teaching methods on a range of subjects such as biology, chemistry, economics, mathematics, physics, principles of accounts and Use of English.
Student counselling has been newly introduced this year.
Professor Wong said CityU planned to develop initiatives on promoting working partnerships between the university and secondary schools. The details were being discussed.
'Other than the course, some university departments have taken the initiative to work with secondary schools with visits, competitions, seminars and consultancy services.' He said the most important thing was to improve the overall quality of teaching.
The course, which has been running for three years, has proved to be a huge success and has received an overwhelming response from teachers.
