I find it hard to understand the cold and uninterested attitude of the Antiquities and Monuments Office over the exciting discovery of an ancient seawall at Penny's Bay. Their response was that there would be no further underwater searches again unless there is concrete evidence. I wonder what further concrete evidence they need to act on.
I am just an ordinary observer interested in the history of Hong Kong and not in any way connected with this discovery. Several years ago, however, I complained to the Antiquities and Monuments Office that they were too slow in exhibiting artefacts discovered in Hong Kong. A quantity of historical coins were discovered at the Yacht Club many years ago, and to this day those coins are still lying in their vaults.
I feel it is time for the Government to evaluate the efficiency of this department.
