City University is to set up a community college next year after the Education Commission's call for diversity in post-secondary education. The college will have two-year associate-degree programmes starting in the 2001-2002 academic year. More than 1,000 first-year full-time students will be admitted next year. The total number of students in the community college will increase to between 3,000 and 4,000 in the following years. The University of Hong Kong's School of Professional and Continuing Education will start a community college this summer, offering credit-based associate-degree programmes. The College of International Education at Baptist University will provide two-year associate-degree programmes from September.
