I refer to the letter 'Horrific abuse of domestic helper not human behaviour' (South China Morning Post, May 26), concerning the 18-month prison sentence given to Liu Man-kuen for burning the hands of her maid, Achacoso Warly Cabaneros, with an iron.
I am sure British employers aren't any better than Chinese employers. The British may not physically abuse domestic helpers but worse, they indirectly abuse them and break the rules set by the Labour Department.
The British are not concerned about the safety of the domestic helpers, allowing them to sleep out and work part-time outside their employment in other households, and go to bars during their day off. They have no respect for the SAR.
Chinese employers are good employers and we do not need people to tell us how it would be handled if the case was heard in Britain, because Hong Kong is now an SAR, not a British colony.
