DEMOCRATIC Party legislator Andrew Cheng Kar-foo has sold his home to help finance his campaign for September's Legco poll. Mr Cheng, a solicitor representing the New Territories East geographical constituency, sold his flat in Western for $2.45 million - the price he paid for it in 1992. The deal gives him $300,000 in cash. Mr Cheng and his family now live in a rented flat in South Horizons, Aberdeen, paid for by a housing allowance which his wife, Chan Kwai-ying, receives from the University of Hong Kong. During the 1998 Legco poll, Mr Cheng spent $1.4 million on election expenses. With two separate tickets to be fielded by the party in the constituency this year, the party would only lend him $400,000 for the coming poll.
