The number of accidents on most roads where speed limits were relaxed last year has risen. Deputy Secretary for Transport Margaret Fong Shun-man said of 19 roads affected, 14 had more accidents. However, at a Bills Committee meeting on the Road Traffic Legislation (Amendment) Bill, some members and transport industry representatives urged a further relaxation of speed limits. The bill, which aims to impose heavier penalties on speeding, is due to be implemented early next year.
