A new entry was established in the Guinness Book of Records by amassing 10,000 rice dumplings to create a giant dumpling.
The 10,000 dumplings, wrapped by 500 members of staff from Towngas and 100 secondary students, were delivered to elderly people who live alone.
To promote the traditional art of rice dumpling-wrapping among the younger generation, Towngas organised dumpling- wrapping courses for 70 secondary schools.
The 'Wrapping Rice Dumplings for the Community' programme not only promoted the traditional practice, but also benefited the community and made an entry into the Guiness Book.
James Kwan Yuk-choi, Towngas director and general manager (marketing and customer service), said rice dumpling-wrapping was a Chinese tradition which the company wanted to revive.
'We also encourage families to rediscover the pleasure of making rice dumplings together. We hope youths would learn more about Chinese traditions in the process,' he said.
Besides adding to the festive atmosphere atmosphere at the Lok Fu Shopping Mall, the 10,000 dumplings, which were made into a giant dumpling measuring 3.6 metres long, 2.4 metres wide and 1.8 metres high, were delivered to elderly housing estate residents who live alone.
