I refer to your reader's letter headlined, 'Fined for safe driving' (South China Morning Post, May 15) concerning road speed limits.
Speed limits are used as a means of controlling the speed of traffic to enhance road safety. To find out the appropriate speed limit for Tai Chung Kiu Road, a speed limit review was carried out for the section of Tai Chung Kiu Road between Lion Rock Tunnel Road and Fo Tan Road.
The review concluded that there was no strong justification to increase the speed limit on the road section and that the existing 50 km/h speed limit which is considered appropriate should be retained.
