Consumer finance firm Aeon Credit Service (Asia) has launched an online payment gateway allowing credit-card holders to pay Internet transactions through the company's ATM machines.

The service - called Aeon-Spot - will help consumers avoid hacking of their personal information during online transactions with credit-card payments, according to Aeon managing director Kazuhide Kamitani.

'There is infinite potential for consumer business activities through the Internet,' he said.

'But the issue of transaction security deters growth.' Aeon-Spot allows consumers to choose from among the company's 226 ATM machines to process their payments.

'Customer information can be secured because our ATM network is a closed system,' Aeon senior information-technology marketing manager Ban Pan said. The service accepts not only Aeon's credit card but also other card types such as Visa and MasterCard.

Directors Lau Yuk-kwong and Gerald Fong Chung-leung said Aeon had lined up about 50 online merchants.
