Sun TV puts $300m into bid for satellite
Sun Television Cybernetworks Holdings plans to invest HK$300 million in the next five years to develop a satellite-television channel.
The channel, Sun Satellite Television, is expected to be launched in August and transmitted through Asia Satellite 3S, according to Yang Lan, chairman of Sun Television.
The channel will provide infotainment programmes such as history, biographical and documentary programmes for all households in the region under Asia Satellite 3S' footprint, Ms Yang said.
However, the channel has no direct access right to mainland households, said Tsui Siu-ming, chief executive at Sun Television, formerly known as construction company Leung Kee Holdings.
'None of the other foreign TV channels have the right to get access to mainland TV households,' Mr Tsui said.
He said the company has reached agreements with mainland's TV broadcasters to re-package and re-broadcast their programmes.
