A team of Sichuan chefs has brought in by the Excelsior to cook at two of the hotel's restaurants in a promotion starting tomorrow. Li Lin and his team from the award-winning Su Fong Yuan restaurant in Sichuan province will make their regional specialties in Yee Tung Heen and Cafe on the 1st. Guests can sample the dishes on the a la carte and set menus at Yee Tung Heen, including steamed pork and bean sprout dumplings, braised sliced abalone with marinated vegetables, deep-fried crispy sweetcorn cakes, and steamed pigeon and Matsutake mushrooms with pan-fried beef cake. Set menus start at $4,000 plus 10 per cent for 12 people; tel 2837 6790. The Sichuan dishes are available on the buffets in Cafe on the 1st. The promotion runs until August 31. If you want your children to learn some basic cooking skills and dining etiquette, send them to the Savoir Faire classes at the Ritz-Carlton. The classes take place Saturday afternoons from July 8 until August 29, and are taught in English and Cantonese. The class schedule includes Jurassic Park burgers, pizzas and snacks, spaghetti and lasagne, and cookies and chocolates. Participation is limited to 10-12 children each, ages eight-12.
