The milk facial and foot treatments at the newly-opened Blu Spa in Central are not quite as basic as splashing oneself with the pasteurised liquid contained in Kowloon Dairy bottles.
Instead, Natasha Rajewski, president of Toronto-based Blu Spa, which opened its first international outlet in Hong Kong last week, devised a line of products that include 100 per cent milk protein and other ingredients such as lecithin, to be used for both at-home and in-salon treatments. There is the Comforting Facial Moisturizing Cream and Cleansing Cream, the Milk Bath Powder which is sprinkled into the bath, or the Milk Bath Cream which produces a foamy milky bath when dispensed under running water.
Afterwards, slather on some Milk Rich Body Cream; the 100 per cent pure milk protein and organically grown oils in the products help soften dry and rough skin.
In the two small rooms at the back of the store - which sells all types of yummy-smelling natural hair and body products - clients can have milk cream massaged into their face, or soak their feet in a warm, soothing, milk-filled foot spa, prior to a rather intense reflexology session.
The benefits of using milk in beauty care are well-noted - Cleopatra famously bathed in tubs of fresh milk, to keep her skin smooth and white.
'It's very soothing, especially for stressed skin,' said Rajewski.
For the facial, Blu Spa's resident aesthetician, Angela, used Comforting Facial Cleansing Cream followed by the Comforting Facial Moisturizing Cream pure milk protein alongside the usual hydrating masks and toners. The 90-minute experience was gratifyingly relaxing and unhurried.
