Tropical Storm Kai Tak lingered 550km east-southeast of Hong Kong last night. The Observatory issued the No 1 warning signal but the storm is unlikely to directly hit the territory. Forecasters said the storm was unlikely to move closer to Hong Kong in the next 24 hours but beach-goers were warned to watch out for swells. The cyclone has been named Kai Tak after the former airport. The name was one of 10 chosen by Hong Kong when Asia adopted a new naming system two years ago.
