Why do people get wrinkles as they get older? Wrinkles are caused by three main factors: gravity, the sun and facial expressions. The Earth's gravity is constantly pulling down on your skin, causing it to sag. When you are outdoors, ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun penetrates through the outer layer of your skin, damaging the skin structures beneath. Whenever you smile or frown, you fold and re-fold you skin. As you age, these creases are permanently etched into your face and you get wrinkles! For most people, the main cause of wrinkling is the sun. UV radiation damages part of the dermis (the inner layer of skin), where collagen fibres, made of protein, hold the skin's structures together. It also causes collagen fibres to clump together which results in the weakening of the skin support, and may make the skin thinner, and therefore more easy to fold and wrinkle.
It is easy to protect your skin from UV radiation. Do not sunbathe, and if you do go out into the sun, wear sunscreen, which prevents radiation from penetrating the skin.
Smoking can also contribute to wrinkling. Scientists have found that smokers develop wrinkles at younger ages than non-smokers.
Scientists believe that smoking harms the collagen in skin. In addition, when smoke gets into your eyes, you squint, and squinting causes crow's feet around your eyes.
What is cannibalism? Cannibalism is the eating of human flesh by humans. The word comes from the Spanish name for the Car ib, a West Indies tribe well known for their practice of cannibalism. It is a widespread custom going back into early human history. It has been found among peoples on most continents.
The practice prevailed until modern times in parts of West and Central Africa, Melanesia, New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand, in some islands of Polynesia, among tribes in Sumatra and in various tribes in North and South America.
