AWeb site has been launched to encourage primary schools to share their information and education resources on the Internet. Ecstudy.net is one of the very few Web sites in Hong Kong targeted at primary schoolchildren. 'We found out that some schools developed their own Web sites, but had failed to make use of fun and interesting elements to attract students. Our site was developed to give them some inspiration,' Cloudy Man Kit-wan, marketing manager of ecstudy.net, said. The site features cartoons, animations, quizzes, school life, games and fun and an interesting electronic library. The library provides information on social affairs and general studies. Besides providing information for students, ecstudy.net aims to link up with other school Web sites and share information with them. It also aims to promote Web-based learning. 'We hope our site can help schools produce on-line teaching materials,' Ms Man said. 'We hope by linking the schools' Web sites together, we will be able to build a virtual community for schools to share information or teaching resources.' Currently, there are about 100 primary schools connected to ecstudy.net, and more schools are expected to make use of the Web site's services in the near future. Ms Man was optimistic about the development of Web-based learning in Hong Kong. 'It complements traditional education. Computer-aided teaching resources appeal to students and stimulate their interest in learning,' she said. Meanwhile, ecstudy.net offers a value- added programme for school Web sites. The programme is designed to enhance students' interest and to save teachers' time and effort. For more information, visit www.ecstudy . net or call 2109-9236.
