A construction worker seeking almost $50 million in compensation after injuring his spine in an industrial accident has reached an out-of-court settlement. Lee Wing-chun, 37, was left a quadriplegic after falling nine floors down a shaft on the Lung Mun Oasis building site on September 3, 1997. His wife, Yeung Fong, who sued on his behalf, had made a record personal injuries claim of $76 million against his employer, Law Wah (Plasterer) Co, and site contractor, Hsin Chong Construction Co, in March. The compensation sought was later reduced to $50 million. The final amount of Mr Lee's settlement was not revealed yesterday.
