In one of the first personnel appointments made public since the takeover of Jardine Fleming, acquirer Chase Manhattan Bank said it would put its own man in place to head the combined Singapore group.

Raymond Chang, Chase's senior country officer in Thailand, will assume the same position in Singapore.

The group said Philip Smiley, the present president of Jardine Fleming Securities in Singapore, 'will work closely with Mr Chang on integration of the two businesses in Singapore'. Jardine's Korn Chatikanavij will replace Mr Chang as senior country officer in Thailand while remaining president of Jardine Fleming Thanakom Securities.

Chase Manhattan spokesman Joanne Shephard said other organisational decisions had been announced internally but would not be officially released until next month, when the merger was expected to be completed.

Ms Shephard said Chase would not dominate senior positions.

'It will be a mixture,' she said.
