How would you describe your self? I am a music enthusiast. I am also a gentle person. Of course, I may still scold people when I am really angry, but at least I have learned to calm myself down. I am a responsible person and I will prepare myself well and arrive on time for appointments. You are good at playing mu sical instruments. Do you have any tips for learners? I understand the characteristics of different musical instruments, which helps to create various types of songs. Talent is important, but so is hard work. I would recommend six hours of practice each day for three years on any kind of musical instruments. What has music brought you? Joy. I enjoyed my time with the music group Wynners. The five of us were completely different. We had different personalities and backgrounds, but there was such harmony among us because we all loved music. How did you join Wynners? I was studying in secondary school at that time, and Wynners were called Losers. I joined the band with the help of Alan Tam Wing-lun, whom I had got to know during a music performance. I decided to become a full-time singer after graduation. I am very lucky because everything happened so smoothly. You and the other four mem bers of Wynners are still good friends. Were there any unfor gettable events that happened during your time together? There were many special moments. We all shared the good times and helped each other out when we faced difficulties. Who are your best friends in showbiz? Maggie Cheung Man-yuk, Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Chow Yun-fat and Cherrie Chung Chor-hung. Perhaps we haven't met for quite a long time, but once we see each other, we feel so close. I am also concerned if anything happens to them. I don't think you have to spend most of your time with 'best friends'. Frequent conversation is not really necessary be cause we know each other so well. Now that you are divorced, what is your attitude towards love? When I was younger, I would sacrifice anything for love, but I have changed. Now I am more rational and I want to look after my two children. Do you have any regrets? No, because I don't worry about what I have lost. If I face setbacks, I will just go to sleep. When I wake up, I would have forgotten the sadness. It's up to you how you see things. Things have already hap pened and you can view them in an optimistic or pessimistic way. Do you like acting in movies? I have dedicated a lot of time to the movie industry in Hong Kong. I enjoy shooting movies, but music is my first love. As a father-of-two, how do you communicate with your children? What are your expec tations of them? They are my first priority and I have even missed many work opportunities because of them. I think they know they are important to me. I enjoy staying with them, seeing them grow up every day. Of course, I still have to take care of myself first, so that I can teach them well. I just want them to grow up happy and healthy, and do whatever they enjoy. I always tell them to appreciate others, and always bear in mind that happiness comes from a contented mind. You have started your own golf club. Why did you decide to do so? It happened quite naturally. I and some of my friends wanted to start a business and they said golf is an attractive sports nowadays. I am amazed that my friend Eric Tsang Chi-wai gets up so early to play golf. I think the sport represents a big market in Hong Kong. Besides, I have learned many things from running the business. It is very rewarding when my clients are very happy with the services I provide. What inspired you to become a composer? Pressure pushes me to compose songs, and most of the time I am successful. Sometimes I enjoy composing soundtracks for movies because there is already a theme in my mind to create the piece. However, I enjoy compositions made with my feelings and observations. What are your plans for the future? Now I have my own recording studio, which is working quite well. I hope to release another album this year, in which I will do all the compositions and inject fresh variety into my music. Every time I sing, I get wonderful support from my fans. There's no other job like singing. What is the secret of your success? I am not sure actually. Perhaps I have an affinity with others. People greet me even though I don't know them. They treat me as an old friend all the time. I haven't released an album for quite some time, and I was shocked to learn that many fans still miss me. What is your advice to local youths? The same message I give to my kids. I hope all youngsters enjoy their lives. If they are not satisfied with what they have now, it is meaningless to give them millions of dollars, because they will always want more.
