The 41-year-old man, surnamed Luk, was declared dead at Prince of Wales Hospital yesterday after intensive treatment failed.

Detectives have upgraded their investigation to a murder hunt.

A lone gunman walked up to Luk as he was playing cards with associates at a park in Kwong Yuen Estate, Siu Lek Yuen, and shot him once in the head before escaping on foot.

Heavily armed police wearing body armour mounted a search after the attack at 6.30pm but by last night the gunman was still at large.

Detectives from the New Territories South Regional Crime Unit are investigating the killing, which they suspect was connected to the Sun Yee On triad society.
