Stareastnet.com plans to launch a mainland-based Web site by the end of the year with a joint-venture partner.
The company also plans to start up a Web site next month focusing on singer Teresa Tang and in September launch a Web site dedicated to film star Jackie Chan, said chief executive Philip Wong Kun-to.
Mr Wong said the company had secured a mainland-based partner - an Internet company with the licences needed to run a portal including an Internet content-provider licence - to launch a stareastnet portal specifically for the mainland.
He did not name the company.
He said the infotainment portal company hopes to launch the portal in the coming six months, pending regulatory approval.
Mr Wong said he hoped the launch of a mainland site would boost total page-views from 40 million per month to 100 million per month.
Like other Internet portal counters, Mr Wong said the infotainment portal was more conscious of costs and revenue and was making efforts to reduce operating expenses amid a more sluggish environment.
