No matter whether it is heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual, as the film's name suggests, relax ... it's just sex. But there's something more important for human beings, of course, and that's love.

A group of eccentric friends are living in Los Angeles. They all come from different backgrounds and they all have different stories to tell. Among them, a gay writer fails to find a long-lasting relationship; a gossipy woman wants to have a baby with her boyfriend; a HIV-positive man falls in love with a painter; and there's a bizarre love triangle between three lesbians. And all this is watched over by party host Tara (Jennifer Tilly). What drags all these folks together is the search for true love and friendship.

This is not merely a gay film to protest against the stereotyped images of homosexuals and to project homosexual love in a romantic way. Relax ? It's Just Sex is a very down-to-earth picture showing homosexual relationships are the same as relationships between men and women. By presenting a series of 'short stories', independent film writer and director PJ Castellaneta skilfully captures each person's distinctive personality and, because of their uniqueness, the film comes alive with colour and vitality. The director offers the audience different perspectives, so we are forced to seriously wonder what this sex thing is all about. And his message comes across loud and clear: sex is not just for fun, it helps us connect and brings life, love, sadness and happiness into the world. This film is fun to watch, and it should touch the human emotions hidden deep inside.
