A top graft-buster has praised the role of the media in fighting corruption and urged watchdogs to foster ties with news organisations.
Speaking at a media award ceremony, Cao Qingze, executive deputy secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said the media had played an 'indispensable'
role in the battle against corruption. 'The efforts of journalists are closely related to what have been achieved in building a clean party and fighting corruption,' Mr Cao was quoted by Xinhua as saying on Thursday.
'Public opinion and media have become indispensable forces [in these areas].'
He urged the party's commission for disciplinary inspection at different levels and procuratorate to step up communications with the media.
Despite the backing by the top graft-fighter, mainland journalists remain cautious.
