A high-level SAR delegation plans to travel to Sydney in September to watch the Olympic Games. The group will comprise senior officials and leaders of the Sports Federation and Olympic Council of Hong Kong. A spokesman for Chief Secretary for Administration Anson Chan Fang On-sang confirmed the delegation was being planned but said it was still uncertain if Mrs Chan would be the leader. Delegates would include senior officials and members of the sports federation. It is understood that officials hope to learn from the logistics in hosting the Olympic Games to strengthen Hong Kong's bid for the 2006 Asian Games. The visit is also aimed at beefing up publicity overseas for the SAR's first attempt to host an international sports event. After Mrs Chan was shown around the Sydney Olympic site last November, she said Hong Kong had much to learn from the city in preparing for its bid. The Government also plans to send a high-level delegation to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, next month to lobby support from the executive board of the Olympic Council of Asia, which is expected to announce the host city for the 2006 games in November. Hong Kong is facing competition from New Delhi, Kuala Lumpur and Doha, capital of the Gulf state of Qatar.
