Election Committee candidate Ng Leung-sing said he was confident rival Shiu Sin-por would not take votes from him. Mr Ng, who is vice-chairman of the China and South Sea Bank, said the poll should not be seen as a battle between Mr Shiu and himself. 'Voters are to choose which six candidates can best represent them. It is therefore not a contest between individual candidates. I don't think my source of votes will largely overlap with Mr Shiu's,' said Mr Ng. Mr Shiu, head of the One Country, Two Systems Research Institute, a pro-Beijing think-tank, is the only non-incumbent seeking an Election Committee seat to register so far. His nominees include tycoon Ronnie Chan Chichung. Mr Ng, who describes himself as a friend of the New Century Forum, did not rule out joining a political party if he was re-elected. The New Century Forum is a political group that claims to represent middle-class professionals.
