Scholarship winners will use knowledge to improve the SAR

Hang Seng Bank has donated millions of dollars to be used for scholarships at prestigious overseas universities.

It is hoped the four local and two mainland students who have been awarded scholarships this year will not only benefit from the education themselves but also will be able to contribute to the betterment of Hong Kong.

The four local students are Bonnie Poon Ming-yim of Island School, Lilian Wong Man-wah of St Paul's Co-educational College, Mary Ng Chi-ling of St Stephen's Girls' College and Angus Chong Kung-wai of Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong.

The two mainland recipients are Zhang Minmin of Peking University and Xu Jia of Nanjing University.

The scholarship is given to students under 25 who are keen to excel and have shown that they are willing to contribute to Hong Kong and develop it into a dynamic and flourishing international city.

Places were offered at Harvard University, Princeton Uni versity, Cornell University and the London School of Economics.

The students all have plans to make Hong Kong a better place to live in. Some of the students intend to work towards developing a more effective economic system, others hope to protect buildings of historical and cultural value.
