FIFTY policemen including tactical unit officers were deployed at Eastern Court yesterday in a major security operation as the Immigration Tower arson suspects appeared. Everyone entering the building had their belongings checked by officers, who banned all liquids, including water, oil and perfume, as well as lighters. Confiscated items were placed on tables outside the court and numbered for collection after the hearing involving the migrants. Members of the media had to show their press cards, but others were not asked to show identity cards. Inspector Sit Ka-ho, of the Police Tactical Unit, said security was stepped up in the interests of public safety, but he stressed police had not received any threats or warnings. He said bags were searched to make sure no dangerous goods were taken into the court room. Security at Immigration Tower in Wan Chai has also been stepped up after Wednesday's attack.
