Happy helpers try to bridge generation gap

Four enthusiastic teenagers reached out to the elderly and gave youths a chance to understand them better.

The four were one of 10 groups entering the finals of the Coca-Cola Olympic Pioneers Programme, a project proposal competition.

Participants were required to come up with projects to promote community service or environmental protection in Hong Kong.

Form Seven graduates Sin Long-ying, 18, Jacky Fung Ka- shing, 19, Bosco Mok Nga-bong, 19 and Lau Chun-pong, 18 were scouts from the Venture Scout Unit, 2nd Tsuen Wan Group.

The four boys wanted to improve the relationship between young people and the elderly by giving them a chance to communicate.

'We see old people hanging around the streets or sitting in parks all day long and we wonder why.
