Fung shui, the ancient belief that you can get rich and stay healthy by rearranging your furniture, has been with us for thousands of years.

Across Greater China, the practice of wind and water is so deeply ingrained few architects would dare design a building without first consulting a fung shui master.

But in the past few years, the practice has spread worldwide, to the extent that there is actually a global shortage of reputable experts.

Search for fung shui on Amazon.com and you will find hundreds of books, with titles such as Karen Rauch Carter's Move Your Stuff, Change Your Life or Feng Shui in 10 Simple Lessons by Jane Butler-Biggs. And there are hundreds more fung shui sites on the Web, most of which sound equally authentic.

Though anyone should be able to practise fung shui, it seems a little strange that people should seek advice on an ancient Chinese art from a native of Cardiff or Los Angeles.
