Artists: Eels
Venue: Dublin Arena
Eels are a band who are always in the background creating good, solid tunes. Recently, however, the small-town American band has taken centre stage. Currently touring Britain, they have been amazing audiences with their show and music.
The Eels know the entry to a performance is a key element in getting the audience's attention. They have mastered this skill with costumes such as nuns' outfits and loud shirts, making it a show in itself.
The music was also on another level. I Like Birds included pauses of whistling from the band, which the crowd recreated with overawed enthusiasm. The band finished with songs more familiar to those who have not got the latest album, Daisies Of The Galaxy. Songs included Novacain From The Soul and Flyswater.
Even though most of their songs contain sombre rhymes, they contain up-beat undertones. Truly an 'Eel- etric' night all round!
