Always somewhat of a local institution, China Jump in Causeway Bay (Causeway Way Plaza Two, 463 Lockhart Rd. Tel: 2832 9007) has gone for a new look after recent renovations.
'We changed almost everything you can see,' says Frances Liu, PR officer for China Jump's relaunch. 'The lighting, stereo system, furniture, bar and even the floor - but the original character hasn't changed a bit.'
The bar first opened back in 1992 and has established itself as one of Causeway Bay's most popular haunts - both for a feed and as a drinking hole. With the relaunch comes an improved menu. You can still get pub regulars such as burgers and steaks, but the menu has now been extended to include more seafood.
And the famous - or should that be infamous - dentist's chair remains safely installed, so punters can still join the likes of English footballing and drinking legend Paul Gascoigne, a survivor of the chair's charms during England's pre-European Championships tour back in 1996, and sit back while bar staff pour shots down your neck.
The juggling bartenders still strut their stuff each night and happy hours are from 6pm until 8pm. The DJ kicks in around 10.30 once the dinner plates have been cleared away. And the ever-popular Ladies Night is still going strong on Wednesdays. Ladies get their drinks for free. And the men? Well, they get to watch.
