Your correspondent 'Name And Address Supplied', refers to 'filthy streets' in Quarry Bay (South China Morning Post, August 15).
However filthy, I am sure the residents do not have to put up with the dead pigs that are regularly dumped at rubbish points throughout the New Territories, and Pat Heung in particular (I assume from the local pig farms).
This practice has been going on for years and I often wonder why the refuse collectors tolerate being asked to tidy up such objects. During the heat of summer it is almost impossible to walk past these collection points, because of the stench and possibly worse, as the bloated carcasses expand to bursting point. I am sure that it would not be too difficult to identify the culprits dumping such rubbish as quite often the pigs are tagged.
Why should we, as the general public, subsidise such bad business practices in this unhygienic way. Whoever is responsible should dispose of the bodies at their own expense and in a proper fashion.
