Taxpayers are to foot a bill of $500,000 in legal fees for two lawyers representing Tung Chee-hwa's senior aide, Andrew Lo Cheung-on, at the hearing. The fees charged by Alan Hoo SC and Johnny Mok Shiu-luen included a briefing fee and daily 'refreshers', a source said. Vice-chancellor Professor Cheng Yiu-chung will pay the bill for his solicitor, Martin Rogers of Herbert Smith & Co., and barrister Warren Chan Chee-hoi SC. The University of Hong Kong will pay the fees of Robin Peard of Johnson, Stokes & Master and Patrick Fung Pak-tung SC, who represented the panel. Estimates for these fees reach as high as $2 million.
